Green Initiatives

The BSP participates in a number of green initiatives and recycling programs in an effort to decrease plastic waste and energy use. Click on each initiative for more information.

UNC Green Labs works with all members of the UNC community — researchers, lab manager, P.I.’s, building manager, students, staff, faculty, and administration — to encourage sustainable practices and promote awareness of green issues in UNC’s laboratories.

Starting January 2019, we are challenging UNC graduate students, post-docs, lab managers, and P.I.s to reduce energy use in lab freezers.By adopting efficient, effective sample storage practices in laboratories across campus, we will save energy, keep samples safer and increase sample accessibility.

In addition to the above, we also recycle plastic tip boxes, cardboard, paper, and various other items.
